Sometimes the thought of traveling abroad can be a little daunting, especially with the passport and visa requirement changes over the years.
US citizens traveling abroad will need a passport for almost every country and depending on your type and duration of your travel- at least for the most part – you shouldn’t need to put in a request for any special visa, however there are some countries that do have the requirement.
So its always wise to plan ahead and check with the nearby consulate of the country you wish to visit, or check out the
Department of State, which is the “go-to” place for all information related to passports, visas, travel warnings and restrictions. We found this to be very helpful especially for first time international travelers.
If all you need is a passport, you can easily go to your nearest postal office or simply apply online
here.
The postal service will even help you expedite your application if you need it in a hurry. We also recommend you enquire about the passport card,- of course this depends on where you going- but the passport card may be an easier and more cost effective method if you planning a quick getaway to places like Mexico or Canada.
Tip: have your passport photos taken before you go to the USPS store, not all of the stores offer to take the pictures and when they do they’ll charge an extra $15.00, when on average they usually cost $7.00 also make sure your photos are 2inch X 2inch.
